CHALLENGES IN COLLABORATIVE ENGINEERING (CCE'07)

Coordination of Collaborative Engineering: State of the Art and Future Challenges

11th-13th April, 2007

Kraków, Poland
in conjunction with DDECS'07

Event Objectives
The 5th anniversary of the workshop series on challenges in collaborative engineering will focus on an essential aspect of collaboration: the coordination of work in dispersed groups. Collaborative Engineering aims at providing concepts, technologies and solutions for supporting work in dispersed engineering teams. The increased industrial demand for this innovative approach is based on the fact that networked organization structures are common practice in numerous industry sectors, like automobile, aerospace, electronics or construction. Collaboration has become a key issue for agile and flexible engineering processes.

As in the previous years, the CCE workshop will have a special focus within collaborative engineering, but contributions from all areas are encouraged. In its 2007 edition, focus of CCE will be on coordination. An understanding of the coordination demand from different engineering domains is crucial for providing adequate organizational and technical support. This is reflected in the main aspects to be covered CCE'07:
  • socio-technical aspects: understanding user demand and best practices of coordination in engineering teams; coordination and collaborative learning; handling multi-cultural issues in coordination
  • technical aspects: designing and creating coordination tools and services; awareness support and coordination; coordination mechanisms for specific domains and application fields; integration of coordination mechanisms in existing engineering environments
  • organizational and economic aspects: measuring benefits of collaboration; organizational aspects and guidelines for coordination; intellectual property sharing and protection
The workshop aims at presenting concepts, technologies, and solutions for collaborative engineering. Researchers, practitioners and tool developers are invited to contribute to the workshop by presenting application problems, giving experience reports, or by introducing concepts, methods, and solutions. Priority will be given to contributions including industrial cases, but submissions from all areas of collaborative engineering are encouraged:
  • case studies and best practices in coordination of distributed engineering work
  • social aspects of collaboration teams
  • architectures and technologies for coordination support solutions
  • organizational learning and collaborative engineering
  • integration of knowledge management, groupware and product development
  • communities of practice
  • knowledge supply and information logistic support
  • coordination support for distributed engineering teams
  • coordination requirements for specific engineering fields and for heterogeneous engineering teams
  • middleware for internet based solutions
  • systems for the integration of geographically distributed tools and applications
  • standards for exchange formats/protocols
  • legal, security and IP aspects and concepts

DDECS'07
The CCE'07 workshop will accompany the DDECS'07 event, i.e. the IEEE Workshop on Design and Diagnostics of Electronic Circuits and Systems that will be held in the same place on April 11th-13st, 2007.
DDECS is a forum for presenting and discussing trends, emerging results, practical applications, and hot topics in the areas of design, test and diagnosis of microelectronic circuits and systems. The workshop was held annually in Central European countries: Czech Republic (1997, 2002, 2006), Poland (1998, 2003), Slovakia (2000, 2004), and Hungary (2001, 2005).
