Collaborative Engineering aims at providing concepts, technologies and solutions for product development in dispersed engineering teams. The increased industrial demand for this innovative approach is based on the fact that networked organization structures (e.g. enterprises with several branches, networks of SMEs, or virtual organizations) are common practice in numerous industry sectors, like automobile, aerospace, electronics or construction. Collaboration has become a key issue for agile and flexible engineering processes.

The workshop on Challenges in Collaborative Engineering has been established by the EU IST project E-Colleg that was aiming at R&D of advanced pan-European infrastructure for collaborative engineering. Although E-Colleg has developed a prototype infrastructure, there are still many obstacles hindering pan-European cross country and inter-organisational network-based collaboration. Each workshop focuses on a selected one major challenge.

This portal has been established in order to provide a support to the community arround the CCE workshop and all other organisations or individuals that share interest in the domain.
